If you love swimming in nature as much as I do, Ticino will definitely steal your heart.

One of the things I love most about this region is that every day can feel completely different. One day you can swim in a wild emerald river surrounded by rocks and mountains, and the next day relax on a sunny beach by a lake with palm trees.

I have explored many swimming spots around Ticino, and these are the places I keep coming back to and truly recommend.

Ponte Brolla — my absolute favourite

If I had to choose only one swimming spot in Ticino, it would definitely be Ponte Brolla.

The crystal-clear emerald water, huge smooth rocks, and natural pools make this place feel magical. I love coming here to swim, relax on the warm granite rocks, and simply enjoy the beauty around me.

You can also jump from the rocks if you are experienced, but even just floating in this incredible water is an unforgettable experience.

The water is cold, even on the hottest summer days, but that is exactly what makes it so refreshing.

Valle Maggia — a paradise for wild swimming

If you are looking for a more wild and natural experience, Valle Maggia is one of my favourite places in Ticino.

The river stretches through the whole valley, and there are so many beautiful spots to stop: natural pools, smooth rocks, small beaches, and hidden corners surrounded by mountains.

What I love about Valle Maggia is that you can always find your own little place. You can spend the whole day swimming, sunbathing on the rocks, having a picnic, and feeling completely connected with nature.

Avegno — peaceful beaches along the river

One of the nicest places along the Maggia River is Avegno.

Here the river creates beautiful natural pools and small beaches where you can relax without feeling surrounded by too many people. It is a perfect place for a slow summer day: swimming, reading a book, and enjoying the mountain views.

Tegna — a quieter alternative to Ponte Brolla

Just a few minutes from Ponte Brolla, you will find Tegna.

I love this place because it has the same beautiful river atmosphere but usually feels a little more peaceful. If you are looking for a beautiful spot away from the biggest crowds, this is definitely worth visiting.

Lavertezzo (Valle Verzasca) — the famous one

Of course, I have to mention Lavertezzo.

This is probably the most famous swimming spot in Switzerland, and for a good reason. The turquoise water under the iconic stone bridge Ponte dei Salti looks almost unreal.

Yes, it can get busy during summer, but I still think everyone should experience it at least once. My advice: come early in the morning — the valley is quieter, and the atmosphere is completely different.

Lake Beaches in Ticino 🌴

Sometimes I also love a slower kind of swimming day — warm water, a comfortable beach, a good book, and a beautiful lake view.

For those days, these are my favourite places.

Ascona — Lido di Ascona

Probably my favourite lake beach in Ticino.

The combination of warm water, sand, palm trees, and mountain views makes it feel almost like a Mediterranean holiday.

It is the perfect place to spend the whole day: swimming, relaxing in the sun, enjoying an ice cream, and walking along the beautiful lake promenade in the evening.

Brissago — peaceful and beautiful

If Ascona feels too busy, I would choose Brissago.

It has a much calmer atmosphere, beautiful views, and the perfect feeling of escaping from everyday life.

Locarno & Tenero

These beaches are great when you want comfort and easy access.

There is plenty of space to relax, swim, and enjoy a classic summer day by the lake. The water here is especially pleasant during the warmer months.

Lido di Lugano

A great option if you are spending a day in the city.

I love that you can combine exploring Lugano with a refreshing swim in the lake. After walking around the city, there is nothing better than jumping into the clear water with a view of the mountains.

Morcote — beauty everywhere

Morcote is one of the most beautiful places in Ticino.

The old village, palm trees, mountains, and lake create such a special atmosphere. I love coming here for a slow day: swimming, walking through the small streets, and ending the day with dinner overlooking the water.

Riva San Vitale — a hidden gem

For a quieter experience, I would choose Riva San Vitale.

It is less touristy and perfect if you simply want to enjoy a peaceful swim surrounded by nature.

For me, that is what makes Ticino so special.

It is not just about one perfect swimming spot — it is about having so many different places to discover. Emerald rivers, hidden natural pools, warm lakes, and beaches surrounded by mountains.

Every summer day in Ticino can become a little adventure. 💙
