Cyprus is an island of sunshine, sea, and unforgettable experiences. A true Mediterranean paradise where everyone can find something for themselves. But why should Cyprus be on your travel list? In my opinion, it definitely deserves a place there.

The southern, Greek-speaking part of the island covers a large part of Cyprus and offers plenty to see and do — from beautiful beaches and breathtaking landscapes to shopping, delicious food, nightlife, and fascinating places to explore.

Ayia Napa — Beaches, Relaxation and Nightlife

If you are looking for a great holiday destination, I would definitely recommend Ayia Napa. It is perfect for families with children who want a relaxing beach holiday, but it is also a great choice if you are looking for exciting parties and nightlife.

And, in my opinion, Ayia Napa has some of the best beaches in Cyprus.

My number one choice is Nissi Beach Its crystal-clear turquoise water, soft white sand, beautiful rocks, and plenty of activities make it an ideal place to spend the day. There are also cafés and restaurants nearby, so you can easily find everything you need for a comfortable day by the sea.

Sun loungers are reasonably priced, so you can spend the whole day relaxing on the beach without spending too much.

Not far from Ayia Napa is Protaras, another beautiful seaside resort. It is a little quieter than Ayia Napa, making it a great choice for families, couples, or anyone looking for a more relaxed atmosphere. The area is also known for its beautiful beaches and crystal-clear water. One of the places definitely worth visiting is – Fig Tree Bay, one of the most famous beaches in Protaras.

Cape Greco — Cliffs, Caves and Breathtaking Views

If you are already in Ayia Napa or Protaras, you should definitely visit Cape Greco. It is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Cyprus, with dramatic sea cliffs, natural arches, caves, and incredibly clear blue water.

One of the highlights is the Sea Caves, which were naturally shaped by the sea and wind. The coastline here is absolutely stunning and offers incredible opportunities for photography, swimming, snorkelling, and boat trips.

Another popular spot is the Love Bridge, a natural rock arch stretching over the sea. It is one of those places where you simply want to stop, enjoy the view, and take a few photos. It is especially beautiful around sunset.

Nearby, you can also find Kamara tou Koraka, a natural stone arch rising above the sea. Its unusual shape makes it one of the most interesting natural landmarks in this part of Cyprus.

For me, Cape Greco represents a different side of Cyprus — not just beaches and resorts, but wild nature, dramatic cliffs, sea caves, and incredible Mediterranean landscapes.

Larnaca — My Favourite Place in Cyprus

My personal favourite is Larnaca, where I lived for almost three months. It is also home to one of Cyprus’s main international airports, making it a convenient place to start your trip.

I also think Larnaca is a great place to go shopping. The city has plenty of shops, cafés, and restaurants, and after shopping you can enjoy a walk along the beautiful seafront.

One of the most interesting places to visit is Mackenzie Beach, located very close to the airport. Planes fly surprisingly low over the beach during take-off and landing, making it a fantastic place to take some unique photos.

In the evening, I recommend walking along the promenade and having dinner at one of the seaside restaurants. You should definitely try the fresh fish and seafood — you can find delicious meals here at relatively affordable prices.

Larnaca Salt Lake 🦩

One of the places worth visiting in Larnaca is Larnaca Salt Lake, especially during the winter months when flamingos arrive here.

The lake is located very close to Larnaca International Airport, making it an easy stop before or after your flight. From around November to March, you can often see beautiful pink flamingos gathering in the shallow waters.

It’s a peaceful and unique place to visit, and seeing flamingos in their natural environment is definitely one of those special Cyprus experiences. 🦩

Tip: If you’re flying into or out of Larnaca, add the Salt Lake to your itinerary — it’s just a short distance from the airport.

Limassol — The Business Centre of Cyprus

Limassol is considered the business centre of Cyprus. It has a more modern and cosmopolitan atmosphere, with beautiful waterfront areas, restaurants, hotels, and a lively city life.

But Limassol is not only about business. There are also beautiful natural and historical places nearby that are definitely worth visiting.

One of the most famous is Aphrodite’s Rock. According to Greek mythology, this is where the goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite, emerged from the sea. The dramatic rocks, blue water, and beautiful coastline create an incredible atmosphere, and it is a fantastic place for taking photos.

Nicosia — The Heart of the Island

If you have some extra time, I highly recommend visiting the heart of the island — Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus.

Nicosia is a unique city because it is divided between the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish-controlled northern part of the island. This division is one of the city’s most distinctive features and gives Nicosia a completely different atmosphere from the coastal resorts.

You can walk through the old streets, discover historic buildings, and experience another side of Cyprus away from the beaches and resorts.

So, Why Visit Cyprus?

Because Cyprus is much more than a beach destination.

It is sunshine and sea, beautiful cities, incredible beaches, delicious food, shopping, nightlife, history, and countless places where you can take unforgettable photos.

For me, Cyprus is not just another holiday destination. It is a place filled with special memories and an island I would love to return to again.

So, if Cyprus is not on your travel list yet — maybe it is time to add it.
